Doing your PhD can feel so much better than this.
You might not believe me yet, but instead of procrastinating, worrying, and getting behind, you can learn how to plan intentionally, follow through on your plans, and actually enjoy your research. Â
"Vikki's guidance was not just practical advice; it was a lifeline"
(International PhD student in Nursing)

Let me guess - most nights you go to bed thinking:
"Tomorrow I'm going to get back on top of things"?
"Vikki's coaching equips us with the exact skills we need that supervision can’t reasonably be expected to address and provides a safe space for new researchers to get their bearings.”

You've probably tried workshops or even coaching before,
but nothing's really helped you the way you hoped
Â
Â
You've believed in "quick tips" that then don't work
Instead, I will help you identify what is actually making your work day difficult, and we'll personalise tools for you and YOUR way of working.
Â
Workshops have been ok, but nothing really changed
I provide consistent, meaningful support when you need it, in a format that works for you, so that you can see real change in your life.
Â
You listened to productivity gurus who don't have PhDsÂ
I completed my PhD quickly AND supervised several students to successful completion - I "get" academia and it's unique weirdness and pressures!
Â
You keep feeling like you "should" be able to do this alone
Your experiences are normal, other people feel the same way, and it's so much easier to learn within a compassionate community like ours.
Introducing The PhD Life Coach membership!Â
In the membership, we help you understand your own challenges and develop strategies that feel good and get stuff done. You’re surrounded by other PhD students, experiencing the same difficulties as you, and together with your expert coach Dr. Vikki Wright, you support each other to achieve your goals.
Who is it for?Â
Â
The PhD Life Coach membership is for anyone who:
- Procrastinates getting started on their research
- Feels lost, confused, and unsure what to do next
- Works all the time but doesn’t seem to get anywhere
- Sees people around them succeeding and getting ahead and wonders if everyone else knows something they don't
- Is outwardly successful but worries that it’ll all crumble down soon
- Secretly believes that they’re not actually good enough to do this and fears someone will find out
Â
"After each session, I feel more capable to take the next step in getting work done on my PhD and I feel supported in doing it. I'm not sure that I would still be enrolled without it."
PhD student in Medical Sciences

Quarter 2 (May - July 2025) will focus on getting stuff done
If you feel like you start with good intentions, and then end up not following through, then this is the quarter for you. I'm going to teach you a series of tools and approaches that will make it easier for you to get focused and stay motivated so that you can achieve your goals and enjoy your work. We'll learn what procrastination really is and how to manage it, as well as how to prioritise your tasks so that it all feels a bit easier.
You will finish the quarter feeling motivated and accomplished.
You will have a personalised prioritisation system and a motivation management "toolbox" of strategies to help you achieve your goals.
As a bonus, you'll also get access to the recordings and resources from Q1 which focused on building your task and time-management systems!
Â

"I felt like I was stuck in a black hole, I doubted myself, I was hopeless. Since joining, I am better at planning, I am better at managing procrastination, I accept that I do not know it all yet but I am in the process of learning."

"Vikki’s support and expertise has been invaluable in managing my procrastination, battling my feelings of inadequacy, and mastering the art of making and sticking to plans."

Hi, I'm Dr Vikki Wright
Â
I am an award winning professor with 20 years experience of postgraduate training and supervision. At the same time, I really struggled with procrastination and overwhelm.Â
Receiving coaching changed everything for me. I learned to stop beating myself up and enjoy the work I was doing. Now I support PhD students and academics to do the same.Â
When I’m not coaching, I'm usually snuggling my labrador and getting excited about new hobbies (currently flying trapeze, collage, and trying to find a paddleboard polo club).
Â
My approach
I know how hard academia can be. I'm not going to tell you to "get a planner" and "be disciplined". We're going to find the real issues and come up with a plan that feels good.Â
I’ll be there to support you but I also want to you to be able to look after yourself without me! I teach you how to understand your mind and coach yourself to achieve your goals.
I also want you to thrive, not just to cope with adversity. This isn't about being more "resilient" so that you just cope with more and more difficult times. I help you feel empowered to support yourself and change your experience.

"I wanted a coach who had qualified with a PhD and gone through the process, someone who had experience in academia supervising PhD students, and someone who had been a professor."

Online group coaching (10 weeks/quarter) – you can watch others get coached and volunteer for one-to-one coaching yourself.
Â

Two 2hr live online workshops per month
Covering topics like how to write when you’re struggling to write, what to do if you have too much to do, and how to stop procrastinating

Self-paced versions of my workshops
The exact step by step help you need whenever you need it. Great if you can't make the live sessions or if you prefer to work at your own pace.

Access to our exclusive Slack community
Where you can ask questions, get personalised responses, and chat with and support other PhD students from all over the world.

The unique “Be your own best boss” online course
This self-paced resource helps you figure out how you supervise yourself at the moment, how that’s affecting your progress, and how to become the best possible supervisor for yourself in the future.

Coworking sessions
If you're someone who needs a deadline to get stuff done, we've got you. Twice a month we'll have two hour coworking sessions where you can work on your self-paced courses (or other tasks) in a supportive environment.
I did (almost all of) the Be Your Own Best Boss course. I find I no longer have panic moments where I don't know what to do.Â
Before joining the membership, I was stressed, overwhelmed and somewhat regretting starting my PhD. Now that I have my organisation system in place, I'm enjoying it again.Â
